How To Get Rid Of The Swelling And Sting Feeling In Lips?

Hi my lips have been swallon for 4 days now ..this happens to me once or sometimes twice a year... I don't know what is causing it but I was taking alcohol shots and eating lemon with salt the night before then the next morning i woke up with the swallon dry and sting feeling on my lips.. please tell me how do I get rid of it. I really can't remember what did I do to get rid of it last time :(

Hi. Thanks for writing in to HCM


Seems you have an episode of Angioedema (Lips, eyelids, toungue, larynx and GI tract can be affected).

Its similar to Hives but may or may not be accompanied with hives.

It can occur in reaction to food, drugs, infection, or it may be genetic.

I would advice that you consult a dermatologist who would ask you to get a few lab tests done.

It can sometimes be an emergency when it involves larynx thus casing difficulty in breathing.

Thus one should always be aware of the drug that need to given in case of such an emergency.
