Hey, so i got very badly sun burnt to the point where i had blisters on my shoulders. When the blisters faded, I ended up peeling off some of the burnt skin, which i know is not good. I applied some aloe vera on the new skin and it stung A LOT. Was peeling off the skin prematurely really that bad?
Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to take a short course of an oral steroids. Oral steroids are rapidly acting and immediately bring down the swelling and discomfort.
In addition to that you could use topical moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream, twice daily for a week. It would ease the discomfort of peeling skin.
An OTC pain killer/anti-inflammatory e.g ibuprofen or aspirin can be taken twice or thrice daily to relieve the pain and discomfort.
Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day.
regards
