I have a big boil at back of my Left knee. It's been there for last two days . I am trying home remedies to get the boil open so as it could drain out itself and provide me with necessary relief. Any specific ointment would you suggest to be applied on it ? PLs. advise Roshim
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at Healthcaremagic
I would keep a possibility of a furuncle. Furuncle/boil is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle with staphylococcus aureus.
The best way to approach is to start on an empirical oral antibiotic for a week OR 10 days. My choice of oral antibiotic would have been Amoxycillin 500mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg (Augmentin 625 mg), thrice daily, for a week
OR
Cephalexin (Cap Phexin BD 750mg) twice daily, for a week.
OR
Cefadroxil 500mg (Tab Droxyl) twice daily, for a week.
This would take care of the infection.
Besides, before starting antibiotics you should get a pus culture sensitivity test to determine the causative bacteria and its antibiotic sensitivity.
An OTC antibacterial cream/ointment e.g 2% mupirocin can be applied twice daily over the boil.
If it does'nt seem to respond and keeps increasing in size, it may have to be incised to drain away the pus.
take care regards
