Hi, I am on day 8 post pilonidal cystectomy and for the past two days, I ve noticed that when it s time to change the gauze it s more painful. It feels like the gauze is sticking on some spots and then there s bleeding, bright red blood each time. Should I be concerned and notify my doctor or is it safe to wait for my appointment which is in 7 days? Thank you! Roni
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of pilonidal cyst wound. My treatment advice is :
1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it. 3. Take an NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen for 5-7 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harshit Bhachech
