How To Increase Weight?

Hello, I am having difficulty maintaining my weight. My Dr says all my panels are normal with a slight elevation in cholesterol. Last year at this time I weighed 170 lbs. Today I weigh 149, and I am 6 foot tall. I am 55 yrs, surgeries include: gunshot wound to chest 1975(kidney, spleen, part of my pancreas removed, part of my liver removed, repair to aorta, stomach and bowels. 2003 I was in a nursing home because of a fall from a cliff. Body cast but walk again!Had surgery to my neck, pins, screws and a metal bar implanted. 5 hernia surgeries in last 5 years..I am a very active person. Climb mountains, etc. I am consuming 3000 calories a day now, am home bound with back troubles. Without any activity in the last ten days and consuming tons of food, I have yet to gain an ounce. Seems I defecate everything I eat. My Doctor says nothing is wrong but I feel my body telling me there is. Any suggestion? Thank you, Daniel

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I first congratulate you on being so strong and brave . You are a winner in life. I must help you.

It is not that you lose everything you eat . It is a fact that some of us have a faster rate of metabolism and hence the inability to gain weight.

Do not worry.

Let me help you out.

To gain weight, you need to eat more calories than your body uses each day. You need to do this regularly. It's not enough just to have occasional extra snacks

Gradual weight gain is always advisable. An increase in 500 kcal per day can result in increasing the body weight by 0.5 kgs per week.

Eat plenty of healthy fats. Eat your egg yolks, meat with animal fat, coconut oil, and other healthy fats. Increase caloric intake - of the healthy kind ofcourse. So those bananas count well here.

Chew the food properly to improve digestion.

Keep a track of your weight gain as this is essential; it is healthy to increase approximately 5 to 6 kgs weight per month.

The right combination of healthy food, exercise, right breathing, rest and sleep go a long way in a happier and healthier you

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
