How To Keep The Blisters Due To Edema Clean ?

My dad has blisters due to edema...doc said they might get infected, they looked bad yesterday so I called the doc yesterday...he started him on sulfer...he said to keep the area clean. I used soap and warm water with sterile gauze pads.... have an appointment tomorrow...can I do anything else ?
