How To Minimize Damage To Infant Due To Exposure To Lead?

Hi, my family and I recently moved to New Orleans and we will only be living here for about a year. As such, we decided to rent a very large, beautifuly, sunny, "vintage" apartment in a beautiful part of town. The problem is that when we moved into the home April 1st, I started noticing chipping paint Everywhere. Some of it on the floors and some just misting chipping areas along the woodwork. I immediately became concerned and asked my landlord about it who insisted that the paint was not leadbased ... that when she purchased the home some time ago, the woodwork was bare and had since been painted. I was concerned and decided to purchase an EPA approved home lead paint test. Some parts of our home were positive. My landlord is claiming that she will soon be having an "encapsulation process" done but it will be a few weeks. I try to keep floors, corners, etc. clean but I know you can't see the dust. My 14 1/2 month old crawls and walks and puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. I asked our pediatrician if she should be tested again for lead (she was tested in March at her year checkup) and she said to wait 6 months ... but everything I read says that its imperative to catch lead poisoning quickly to treat it. I'm concerned that 6 months of possible slow exposure will cause irreptuable dammage. What to do?

Hello
Thanks for contacting Healthcare Magic

Small baby get lead from water, inhalation or paint and they are always at greater risk then older.
Symptoms of lead in children will be anemia, fatigue, irritability, lost appetite, annoying behavior, growth delay etc. You must immediate consult pediatrician if found such symptoms in your baby.

Do lab test and if found positive give your baby vitamin C, iron and calcium rich food. Do regular urine or blood tests for lead.

Some protection rules are: Keep your home very clean, keep your and baby's hand very clean with frequent washing, give your baby toys which have no any paints, keep away from dirt around baby, Give baby cold water than hot if from tap and nourish him well.
Hope you will get all.
Have your baby healthy life...
