Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My left knee has been popping very loudly for the last 9 months when I arise from squatting down. Today I knelt down to pick something up and my knee locked up and it took me about 5 minutes and then it popped an I was able to move it again. Now it is very painful on the inside of my knee
With the history given , it looks like a meniscal tear . A meniscus is a structure between the 2 major bones that form your knee. Its role is mainly is to act as a shock absorber. Sometimes due to twisting injury it tends to get caught between the 2 bones and tears, leading to repeated locking and popping episodes , which can be very painful. Treatment involves an arthroscopic repair or excision of the torn meniscus (depending the region of tear) following surgery you should be back to work the next day .
