How To Readjust Dose Of Medicine For Schizophrenia?

Hello, I am 'In confidence':
My wife is being treated for Schizophrenia for the last 6 years or so, and she is not even aware of it. My attempts to apprise her and to have her on board for treatment have met with resistance.
She's currently on around 1-1.5 ml of Haloparidol daily, administered with some liquid cold/hot drink etc.
Managing her 'life as normal' is becoming increasingly difficult with hers being more and more resigned, gaining weight, bothered by symptoms and side-effects.
How can I go about readjustment of dose as every time I reduce it, she has unmanageable problems.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

Sorry to say but it is very difficult to manage.
few options:

1. You can encourage of her long acting injection of antipsychotic like flupenazine, zuclopenthixol, risperdal or palliperidone even haloperidol long acting injection. It can be given by telling her that it is given for something else physical problem.

2. Aripiprazole is the another medicine you can give her unknowingly as it is with least side effects.

3. if her situation is so worse that it is difficult for you and your family and even for her life, she can be given treatment forcefully according to prevailing laws there.

Hope I have answered your query.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
