Hello, I can understand your concern. Many patient ''accuse'' underactive thyroid for their excessive weight. Usually the under active thyroid can cause a slightly weight gain that gets back to normal within a few weeks. Your weight gain of 40 kg can not be due to under active thyroid. After excluding other hormonal problems that may cause it, your treating physician will recommend diet and physical activity.
