Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, this stupid habit of chewing gutka has never left me since 10 years. i recently did a cleaning, but not able to come out of this habbit. the stains are back on my teeths, it is so embarassing to talk to people or even smile before them. please advise
I do appreciate your willingness to quit chewing gutka. You seem to be suffering from tobacco (nicotine dependence).
Since you are not able to quit on your own, I would suggest you consult a psychiatrist. You can be treated with many options. Nicotine substitution by nicotine gums can help in controlling the craving for gutka. In addition, medicines like bupropion and varenicline are efefctive drugs which help reducing craving for nicotine.
Any medication must be combined with regular tobacco cessation counseling which will include learning relaxation exercises, controlling cues and improve coping skills.
Hope this information was helpful. Happy quitting.
