How To Stop The Smell Due To Pus Oozing Out From The Wound?
Hello plz can you help me. I smashed my thumb in a car door 6 weeks ago. I had the blood trephined but only a small amount of blood came out as it was already clotted. Then after seeing the dr who said it was fine (it was not fine) it tripled in size and was clearly infected. I went to a & e & they drained pus out & soaked in some hot water. Dressed it & gave me a sling to relieve the swelling. The swelling has gone down but the puss keeps coming out of the trephined hole but only tiny bits. That I'm not worried about but the smell is gross! Ive had a course of antibiotics (flucoxacillin) but it still smells. The nail hasnt come off like I thought it would but feels really fragile, How can I stop the smell? Plz help.
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. If the pus is still draining out then it means infection is still persisting. In this case, continue oral antibiotic. Prefer taking broad spectrum oral antibiotic like cefopodoxime clavulinic acid or cloxacillin combination. Clean the wound with betadine twice daily and apply a topical antibacterial cream like mupirocin. Hopefuly in few days, it should heal completely. Hope this helped. Take care
