Hello Doctor, My father who is 74 years old suffer accute stroke and his left leg & leg can t move/walk since July 2011. Recently, his hand can lift but finger can t squeeze yet and leg is still weak and still can t walk. We noticed that his hand and leg is swelling and bigger size than right hand/leg? Why is this so? How to help him to loose water retention problem as his hand especillay seems like that? Thanks, Julia
Dear friend. This is called as dependent edema not water retention. This is due to immobility of joint. You need to mobilize joints. And elevate leg end of bed. Gradually it decreases.
