Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Strokes run in my family, at 29 what can I do to lessen the risk? My dads side has really been hit hard with stroke in my grandmothers. I exersize every day what else can I do to lower my risk? Thank you.
Buy a blood pressure monitor at your local drug store and take readings every day at the same time of day for two weeks. That will give you an indication of your regular pressure. Every one has 'spikes' that don't necessarily indicate a problem. If you have 3 or more readings above 130/85, you should seek a Dr.'s advice.
Beyond exercising every day though, you can limit caffeine and alcohol intake and reduce sodium in your diet. I assume you don't smoke. Also, garlic supplements are known to help lower pressure.
Good luck.
Hi well come to HCM.
Common causes for stroke are HBP, DM, Coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia, and
vices like excess smoking leading to coronary, obesity, and genetic factors.Except
genetic factors all others are correctable or preventable. So constant watch on your BP,
sugar, and frequent cardiaC CHECK up, and remaining away from vices are must. Rgular
exercise atleast for 45 minits, avoiding fatty and high carbohydrate diet etc can help
you to prevent stroke. Thanks
