Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
just took my moms blood pressure it is 108 over 48. She is on med for high blood pressure and just came out of the hospital where she was admitted after falling and fracturing her pelvis. The doctors believe her fall occurred because of a drop in blood pressure. She does not remember falling.
HI THANKS FOR YOUR QUERY. THE BP WHAT YOU MENTIONED NEED NOT REQUIRE SPECIAL TREATMENT. A BP OF LESS THAN 90/60 OR MORE THAN 180/90 IS GENERALLY TREATED PROMPTLY....YOU SHOULD BE ONLY AWARE OF THE FACT THAT OVERTREATMENT OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE CAN RESULT IN HYPOTENSION(LOW BP) AND THIS CAN LEAD TO FAINTING SPELLS DUE TO REDUCED BLOOD SUPPLY TO BRAIN. SO THE MOST VITAL FACTOR IN YOUR MOM'S CASE IS A RIGHT DOSE AND CHOICE OF THE ANTIHYPERTENSIVE ME;,THEREFORE KINDLY MONITOR HER BP ON DAILY BASIS UNTIL HER TREATMENT IS OPTIMISED.TAKE HELP OF A CARDIOLOGIST IN THIS REGARD. ANOTHER FACTOR WHICH NEEDS SPECIAL MENTION IS HER FRACTURE PELVIS WHICH HAS POTENTIAL FOR MASSIVE BLOOD LOSS, THAT CAN AGAIN LEAD TO LOW BP. SO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR BONE SURGEON. THANK YOU.TAKE CARE.
