Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently got stung by a bee and possibly a wasp at the same time last Wednesday I believe or possibly thursday. The area has turned from pinkish red to a slight purple..it itches slightly and feels tight..I have put hydrocortisone and neosprin on it.is there something else I can do?
Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM. Antihistaminics (e.g. diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine) are the mainstay of treatment. Oral steroid (e.g. prednisone) may be taken to improve capillary permeability and PMN activity. Routine investigations including complete blood count, urea, creatinine, electrolytes, and LFT should be done. As you don't have anaphylaxis, you don't need the treatment for the that. Mild itching can be taken care of by the antihistaminic. Local wound care is necessary as you are doing. If there is pus, swelling or severe compressive pain you need to visit your local doctor to rule out superficial bacterial infection, cellulitis or compartment syndrome. My recommendation is to consult your local doctor to rule out any complication. For any further query please write back to us.
