Hi! I was playing basketball today, and I got elbowed in my lip, and it is bruised and swollen. The upper left of the lip to be exact. I have been icing it but it doesnt seem to be going down. It is kind of embarrassing. I just wanf to know what I can do to make it better and how long will it take? Please respond as soon as possible.
I completely understand your concern for the swollen bruised lip.
It is quite usual for the lip to get swollen even after minor injury due to very soft nature of it.
If your injury is recent one then it would be better to apply cold water compression or ice over the same.
In my patients I prefer to give Chymotrypsin tablets along with anti-inflammatory tablet according to the age and weight of the affected person.
Do no try to squeeze the area or do not try to do hot compression and avoid direct sunlight.
You will be alright soon.
Take care.
