How To Treat A Lump In Buttocks That Is Oozing Puss And Has A Purple Bruise Around It?

Hello. I ve had a hard lump underneath the skin of my buttocks for a year or so. It has never bothered me before but a few weeks ago the skin around that area turned purple - like a bruise - and became tender. After several weeks of slowly becoming more swollen it started to ooze pus. I ve been keeping it clean, but the constant need to sit at work is not helping the irritation. How long before this recedes?

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic.
It seems like an infected gluteal abscess. My advice is to visit a surgeon and let him have a look.If needed he will open the lump under local anesthesia and release all the pus.A course of antibiotics will be strated. Self treatment is not advised as it can result in extension of the infection to deeper layers.
