How To Treat A Red, Itchy And Inflamed Scorpion Sting Area?
We live in Arizona and my wife got stung by a bark scorpion around 9 times. There was intense pain and she developed loss of motor skills, including eye movement. The doctors at the ER administered antivenom and her symptoms all but disappeared. However, it s been 4 days now and the sting areas are still red and inflamed and very itchy she says. She worries that they re getting worse. Should we have her looked at again? Or are there any remedies?
Hi. As per your case history of scorpion bite, my treatment advice is - 1. Apply ice on inflammed part twice daily. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it. 3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain and swelling twice daily for 5 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
