How To Treat A Swollen Hot Injured Blood Vessel On My Knee?

I just was in a car accident and I broke a blood vessel in my leg, near my knee. It is hot and swollen and I am elevating and putting ice on it. should I be concerned or look for anything that could be more serious that I might need to keep an eye on or get looked at? I am not on any medications. am 53 female in fairly good condition??? little overweight.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I have studied your case and I would suggest you to show it to doctor as soon as possible. He may asked you to get a xray and a Doppler test to check if there is any major blood vessel injury. Blood vessel injuries are risky and should be treated on emergency basis. If there is any fracture than you might need splinting or a plaster.
I would recommend you to go to ER and do these test early. Also do not rub any thing over knee. You can apply ice and compression bandage so bleeding should not occur. Drink plenty of fluid as blood loss can make you feel giddy.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
thanks.
