How To Treat Abdominal Pain With Noisy Intestine?

This morning, I was awakened by pain in my complete abdominal area, and it extended into my mid to lower back. My abdomen felt swollen, tight, and even exerted pressure under my ribs. I have had my appendix and gallbladder removed, so that is not the problem. I feel nauseated, and lethargic. Food or drink is not appealing to me, and I have eaten nothing today except a fruit/yogurt smoothy, and sipped a bit of 7up with saltines. It is Sunday here, so I hesitate to go to ER, as I don t feel this is life/death matter. It is now 8 hrs. since I was awakened by the symptoms, and I am still in my bathrobe, too weak to get dressed. The swelling has subsided somewhat, so my ribs no longer hurt, but my lower abdomen is still painful, and I have much noise in my intestines. I am not constipated. Thanks you for your advice

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Pain in abdomen, lower and below ribs, bloating, nausea and lethargy can be due to an intestinal infection or intestinal obstruction.
This can be diagnosed by the following:
Get a clinical evaluation and examination by a General surgeon to get a probable diagnosis so that investigations can be done to finalize the diagnosis and get proper management.
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasound of the whole abdomen.
Tests of blood, stool and urine to supplement the diagnosis.
If the cause infective a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics will solve your problem.
If the cause is surgical an initial conservative management can help otherwise surgical correction may be needed.
