I have had cricopharygeus throat spasm for almost 2 1/2 months now..How long does it usually last and can I do anything to help get rid of them for good..Also i sleep with my head elevated, but when I m on my back, the fullness feeling in the back of my throat wakes me up, and it is very scary..I am so ready for this to pass.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Cricopharyngeus throat spasm is a rare disease. This is diagnosed by endoscopy and classical symptoms that you get. The fullness feeling in the throat on lying on the back can be reduced by keeping head elevated and by lying on the sides. 2 and 1/2 months is a long time to suffer. Consult a Gastroenterologist for endoscopy and dilatation of the area.Added on is anti-inflammatory medicines along with the ones for stress and anxiety, change over to the diet most suitable for you. Go for barium swallow and CT scan of the area to affirm the diagnosis and rule out anything like cancer or so.
