Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
From your childhood history of eczema, I am presuming that it could be a topic eczema with a severe flare. At age 70, it could also be worsened by asteatotic eczema which occurs due to an age related decrease in lipid or fat content in the skin.
You could benefit from the following-
1. Have lukewarm water baths and avoid hot water.
2. Always moisturise within 3 minutes after bath so that the moisture gets trapped within the skin.
3. An oil based emmolient is the best. You could use mineral.oil like liquid paraffin oil or coconut oil. Use on damp skin to prevent it from becoming sticky.
4. Really moisturisers every 3-4 hours.
5. You could benefit from topical tacrolimus lotion.
6. You could discuss with your doctor regarding photo therapy ( narrow band UV - B) and oral azathioprine as steroid sparing options. However , the doctor will have to consider your age and history of atrial fibrillation before starting those.
Hope you find relief with above measures.
Take care.
