Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. The nonspecific headache with intermittent blurring of vision, dizziness could be due to many causes like
: Migraine - If your headache is one sided, occurring with vomiting, along with other symptoms, aura like symptoms occur before headache e.g. bad taste/bad smell, pain becomes severe in bright light, watering of eyes, it could be Migraine.
It can be managed by consulting
neurologist. He will prescribe you both abortive and preventive therapy. Abortive therapy includes
Medication which stops pain attack like Ergotamine, Triptans like sumatriptan, opioids like Oxycodone. Any one of above medication will be sufficient for you.
Preventive therapy includes medication which prevents pain attack. These medication are Propranolol, Gabapentine,
Amitriptyline, Pregabaline etc. Some preventive non drug measures are also taken like avoid stress, cheese, chocolate, bright light.
:
Tension headache - It presents as dull pain in whole head, band like sensation around forehead, more pain while doing work in bright light/concentration work/lack of sleep/mental stress, less responsive to medication, occurs before and after sleep, occurs for long duration. It is one of the commonest headache.
It is managed by consulting neurologist. He will advise
Avoid mental stress, prolonged work on laptop/watching TV, late night work
Maintain 8-9 hours sleep.
Do Yoga or exercise.
Drink plenty of water - You are already doing it.
Tablet Diclofenac sodium or
Acetaminophen after proper prescription for severe pain.
Head massage
Use glasses if you have
refractive error.
If any confusion on diagnosis, the doctor will investigate you for
:
Hypertension - monitoring BP
: Refractive error - Check visual acuity to know number of glasses.
: Anaemia - Haemoglobin level
: Any mass lesion in brain - CT head and neurological examination
: Sinusitis - Examination of nose and air sinuses, X ray
Paranasal sinuses.
If anything comes positive, the doctor will also treat for it also. Confirmation of diagnosis is needed to treat you.
Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
