hi,thanks for query.Normally our lungs do this balance and oxygen is taken in and CO2 is expelled out.This regulated by various mechanisms including brain.When ever there is some problem either with lungs or brain this system does not work properly and lead to this kind of problem.The treating doctor of yours can only treat this by treating the problem responsible for this.

Its not always high co2 level is to be considered for treatment unless very high. Pts
with copd are regularly having high co2 and need not treat unless very high because
it is respiratory drive for copd pts.On the contarary little high value is acceptable. thanks
