Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 year old began to have loose yellow bowel movements on Wednesday night 4/27 after a meal with fried foods (which we do not usually eat). Over the next days she has one or two bouts of diahrreah and then continued with loose yellow stool. No fever or other signs of illness. We have had her on the BRAT diet and I want guidance about how to ease her back to regular foods. Thanks!
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since your 8 year old daughter eats fried food very rarely, it is possible that there might have been an intolerance or could have been an intestinal infection. This can be diagnosed by simply sending the stool and blood sample for tests and thus can know whether infective or not. If there is an intestinal infection a course of an antibiotic active against intestinal infection will cure her. Also give her probiotics, plenty of oral fluids to get a proper hydration. If there is no infection then the symptomatic treatment will get her back to normalcy soon. Give her normal diet that she used to take before. If there are any other signs like fever, nausea, vomiting, bloating or so, get her to the Pediatrician for clinical evaluation, examination and proper management.
