Hi,

Hormonal imbalance is considered to be the main cause of irregular or delayed periods. The cause of irregular periods such as polycystic ovaries, obesity and hypothyroidism should be ruled out.

Hormonal treatment should be started in the subsequent cycles. FSH LH hormone ratio is about 1:1 - meaning the FSH and LH levels in the blood are similar. FSH and LH are often both in the range of about 4-8 in young fertile women. These levels should be evaluated.

Pelvic ultrasound to rule any ovarian cyst and uterine abnormalities is also essential.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
