Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a non-painful diarrhea for 48 hours now, no stomach cramps, but lots of lower abdomen gurgling. On the first day I did give Imodium a try, but it changed nothing. On the loo I'm basically just passing water, it doesn't smell nasty or anything.
Currently I'm drinking lots of (pure) water and an occasional bottle of powered ION4.
What should I do?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. The basic principle is that you should not get depleted of fluid and electrolytes which needs total re hydration . Rehydration drinks usually come in sachets in form of Electrol or ORS that are available without a prescription from your local pharmacist. They are dissolved in water and they help to replace salt, glucose and other important minerals that you may be losing through dehydration. Rehydration drinks do not cure diarrhoea, but can prevent or treat dehydration. The Antibiotic taken is Ofloxacin , kindly add Tab Ornidazole 500 mg twice daily .Ofloxacin and ornidazole come in combination in the market by different brand names .Take this combination for atleast 3 days and maximum 5 days . I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
