Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 64, 230 and am diabetic. My blood pressure reading is 158/82, a resting blood pressure. I can not take a calcium blocker . My g=hair fall out rather dramatically. When I see my doctor, should I consider a diuretic? Or is there any other drug I could consider. I avoid caffeine and would like to swim laps. but I am concerned with these higher readings.
Hi welcome to HCM. Elevated blood pressure readings in your case has to be promptly treated with group of antihypertensive drugs like Ace inhibitors which are the drugs of choice in diabetic antihypertensives. These class of drugs have a significant potential to reverse left ventricular pathology secondary to long standing high blood pressure. These drugs are also renoprotective.Have a baseline ecg and 2 dimensional echo to rule out organic heart pathology.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
