How To Treat Severe Soreness And Swelling In The Throat While Having A Fever?

My daughter has an extremely sore throat, swollen throat, which came on after a very bad flu. She had a fever of 103 .. still not able to eat .. just liquids.. they re staying down. A bit concerned about throat. She went to the hospital, they did a swab, said they d call if it s strep. Any suggestions for relief?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

She is having upper respiratory tract infection. She needs to start Betadine gargle and antibiotic. As throat swab has been taken you can start with basic antibiotic Augmentin. Start some antiallergic tablet Levocetrizine. Encourage her to take more liquid preferably juice,soup. Once swab report comes u can switch over to the prescribed antibiotic in the culture sensitivity report.
