How To Treat Smoking Related Frequent Gag And Pain In Epigastric Region?
Hi. I have started smoking around 6 months ago and I have not had a problem until about a month ago when I started to frequently gag and feel some pain in the epigastric region. I know it has something to do with the smoking, and I am working on cutting back from cigarettes, but in the meantime, is there any way/treatment to relieve me from the discomfort? Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, Smoking can reduce the mechanism at the gastroesophageal junction which prevents the gastroesophageal reflux. The symptoms of epigastric pain and gag can be due to reflux of gastric contents back into the throat and mouth. Reduction and cessation will control these symptoms. However, in the mean time you need to take drugs which inhibit the reflux. These drugs belong the group called proton pump inhibitors (PPI). These drugs are commonly used for the reflux. You need to consult your doctor for clinical examination, relevant investigations and thus management.
