How To Treat Stiffness In Jaw Due To Slight Displacement Of Disc On Left Side?

Hello Doctor..Good Morning.I have been diagnosed with TMJ Dysfunction. Before developing this problem, I had some stuck feeling in throat that put me under stress for a year with lots of ENT visits and medication on trying to find the problem but eventually got cured with some Homeopathy treatment and appeared to be Globus Hysterica. In this process, I developed Jaw stiffness last year where it was difficult to open the mouth. I Contacted an Oral Maxo surgeon and I was given a splint to wear at night with few Jaw exercises. My TMJ MRI showed slight displacement of disc on left side. I have been trying to relax my joints, not having hard food and doing Jaw exercises suggested by Doctor for a year now though not wearing splints regularly as I do not see any benefit in my case. However even now, there is always pain on the left side of jaw and face, stiffness in TM Joint and cheek which is very annoying. Trying to avoid any pain killer and managing through self relaxation and Yoga but not helping much as pain is consistent. I have been taking some homoepathy medicine from few months but does not seem to be helping much. Kindly help in guiding with a treatment plan and how I should be dealing with it to cure it or atleast minimize the pain. Looking forward for your reply. Thanks and Regards, Vk.

Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
There is o permanent solution for TMJ disc displacement, but the intensity of occurance and pain can be reduced by providing rest to the joints. But if there are any causes like bruxism or mal occlusion, these things needs to be corrected.. You can continue to use the splints regularly. lead a stress free life, since stress can aggravate the TMJ disc displacement.
If all these things does not work, then you can go for arthocentesis that is joint lavage with saline or autologous blood, that will provide relief for 6-9months.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.
