Yesterday my beauty mark on the left side of my face (WHICH i'VE HAD FOR 50+ years) was swollen with a little bit of puss coming out of it. I had lightly shaved a hair off of it a few days before. I put some alcohol on it and have tried a warm compress. What should I do? I'm 56 years old.
Seems to be nothing more than skin infection/folliculitis, the infection might have got introduced into the skin through the hair follicle. Shaving can cause unnoticed minor trauma thus creating a break in the skin. providing a portal of entry into the skin.
I would suggest an empirical course of an oral antibiotic e.g cephalexin 500 mg (keflex) thrice daily for a week.
An OTC antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment OR Neosporin ointment, is to be applied, twice daily.
Regards
