How To Treat The Cotton Wool Like Feeling In The Tongue After Stopping Smoking?
HI I HAVE RECENTLY STOPPED SMOKING BUT ABOUT A WEEK AFTER GIVING UP I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TONGUE IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE A BALL OF COTTON WOOL IN MY MOUTH I HAVE SEEN A GP AND HE HAS GIVE ME SOME MEDICATION BUT THIS ISNT HELPING IS THIS FEELING NORMAL?
Hi...Thanks for the query. Do you feel like ball of cotton wool or are you actually able to see white thready/cheese like material on your tongue, hard palate, side of mouth etc.?? Smoking is known to cause impaired local defenses & bad oral hygiene. This might result in a Candida fungal infection known as oral candidiasis. Treatment consist of ketoconazole oral mouth paint, oral fluconazole tablets etc.depending upon extent & nature of spread. Get yourself evaluated by a dentist. Good Luck
