Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
The answers to you questions:
1. Your condition is called sub- clinical
hypothyroidism. Here the
thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH ) is slightly elevated and thyroid hormones (FT3, FT4) are still normal. This is due to a mild decrease in thyroid function. Body is compensating it with increasing the TSH
2. This condition doesn't need treatment always. Condition in which you may consider treatment are any of these
a. Presence of a swelling in thyroid (goiter)
b. Increased levels of anti thyroid antibodies ( a
blood test)
c. Elevated cholesterol
d.Pregnancy or planning for pregnancy
3. Both Thyronorm and Thyrox are thyroid hormone (thyroxine). They are manufactured by 2 different companies, just like Calpol and Dolo for
paracetamol. The dose the two doctors started is different - personal preferences. Once started your correct dose is adjusted after 6 weeks based on TSH values.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
With warm regards,
