How To Wean Off Nexium?

I have been taking up to 8 panadene forte a day for the last few months and varying doses before that. I sometimes have with alcohol. Three years ago I was on no medication except nexium. I feel very sluggish, and am always red faced. I want to stop as it is having a big impact upon my family. I started use for a bad back but now I just want to stop. I have also been prescribed Diazapam as well to cope with stress but I don t want that either. I would most appreciate any suggestions. Peter

Hello Peter,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor which decreases the acid production in the stomach. It is not a psychoactive medicine. If you do not have any acid related symptoms like abdominal pain or burning, acid eructation etc you can stop it without any problem.
Diazepam is a benzodiazepine and is an anxiolytic. It produces habituation and you should taper the dose gradually.
I shall be happy to answer if you have more queries.
