I have been taking Premarin .625 mg since my hysterectomy at age 28. I am now 74 years old and my gyn physician says she wants me to stop taking this medication by reducing one pill per week for one month, then two pills per week the following month and then 3 pills the following month and so on until I am completely off the medication. Do you agree with this way of discontinuing this medication?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Dr. MANDAVI RAI's Response
Hello,
Yes, in my opinion, you should taper the medicine dose then only get off it completely because leaving any medicine at once will have side effects. So it's better to reduce the dose and, then get off it completely.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
