How To Wean Off Of Metoprolol ER?

How can I wean myself off of metoprolol er 25mg taken once daily. This was prescribed immediately after aortic valve replacement surgery in October 2012. My bp is about 140/80 and I do not want to continue due to its actual and potential side effects. Thanks!

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
Metoprolol is a beta blocker and is an anti hypertensive. Your BP is optimally controlled on it. Before you wean yourself off it, please consult your doctor as stopping it may get your BP out of control and you may require another medicine to control your BP.
I shall be happy to answer more queries if you have any.
Wish you a good day
Dr Noble Zachariah
