The Main Objectives of Diabetic diet are:
To maintain adequate nutrition.
To achieve and maintain desirable body weight.
To maintain normal blood sugar levels.
To prevent, delay or minimize the onset of chronic degenerative complications.
It is important to control the amount and time of food intake.
No Fasting or Feasting.
Avoid foods which have simple sugars and refined flours.Restrict all root vegetables and high calorie fruits, oily fried foods , high fat salad dressings, red meats , organ meats and egg yolk.
Foods which can be used freely include low fat broth soups, all green leafy vegetables, lean meats, high fiber foods like salads , whole wheat, millet's, legumes, skimmed milk & its products.Adequate amount of water to keep yourself hydrated and physical activity for at least 30 minutes daily.
Make sure to test the blood sugar levels at least once a month to assess sugar control and monitor treatment.
Consult a Diabetologist for further management. Look out for warning signs: Fever, recurrent infections, sudden
weight loss,
paresthesia (
numbness and
tingling in palms and soles), dental problems,
blurred vision,
cholesterol levels and sudden weakness of one side of face or body.
