First of all thank you choosing healthcare magic.

I was shocked till I read the last line, I know the world is becoming tech savvy but still it is too early for a child of 1.5 years to ask a doctor question online.

Any way that was just to relieve your anxiety.Type 1 diabetes is known disease where in there is no insulin (a hormone in the body that utilizes sugar for energy for the body) so one has take it from out side. there is no need to worry. He has to take insulin injections regularly and for life. The parents must need to understand the condition fully as baby is too small and till he makes mature enough to understand the things, parents have to take care, today treatment of type diabetes is very much improved and if some routine care is taken the life will be smooth and he will happily live and enjoy his life. With advancement that are happening today the treatment in future will be much easier and bright for this patients.Pt.goes in coma because of high sugar level so regular checking is must, for all this parents needs to learn the disease.

Hi. Type I diabetes has been explained already. Insulin administration and complications should be properly understood by the patient in this case the caretaker. In this modern age of insulins your neice will have a good life by the grace of God. Please do the needful as advised by your doctor.

Dear Anonymous,

Diabetes in Infancy is a bit rare (as compared to other age groups). I hope your niece will be fine after rehydration therapy in hospital along with Insulin.

At this early age the diabetes could be due to :-

1) Mutations in the receptors - Chances are less in your niece.
2) Pancreatic abnormalities - See if her stools are abnormal. Also better to get a sonography(ultrasound abdomen) done.
3) Type 1 diabetes - This is more likely in your niece's case as she was presented with Coma

So we come to Type 1 diabetes in Infancy which could be:

a) Temporary - After some days, she will become normal and might not need insulin for few months to few years. But in future, she will again need Insulin.
b) Permanent - The insulin which is started right now, will continue life long. This is more likely in your niece's case.

In short, she will be fine with regular administration of Insulin. Please ask her parents to learn the Insulin administration technique from their doctor/nurse before her discharge from the hospital.

Hope this helps. Please keep us updated, if it's possible.

Regards.
