Increasing Bald Spot On The Head With A Round Lump In The Center

hello, my husband has a bald spot on his head, now about the size of a toonie and seems to be getting bigger and in the center of the balding area, is a round lump, about the size of a dime. He asked me to put antibiotic ointment on it so when i did, he had a bit of pain to the touch. What could it be?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it is a fungal infection, tinea capitis. This can result in hair loss.

It would not respond to topical treatment alone. He would need an oral antifungal to be prescribed by his doctor.

He may want to consider visiting his doctor for an assessment.

I hope this helps
