Hi
Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic
Acute
diarrhea is most common in 6 months to 3 years age group.
Some of the common causes of diarrhea are listed below:
1. Infective diarrhea
a. Viral e.g. Rotavirus
b. Bacterial e.g. E. Coli, Cholera
c. Protozoal e.g. amebiasis
2. Parenteral diarrhea caused by respiratory or
urinary tract infection
3. Non Infective diarrhea
a. Drug induced e.g. by antibiotics
b. Toxins e.g. food poisoning
c. Food allergy
d. Over feeding
More than 90 % of diarrheas are infective in origin of which Rotavirus is the commonest cause of acute diarrhea in infants and toddlers.
In your case it can also be parenteral diarrhea or diarrhea due to over feeding.
Most important part in the management of diarrhea is fluid replacement therapy followed by nutritional management and anti-diarrheal drug treatment.
In your case if the baby is dehydrating then you should give Oral rehydration therapy (
ORS), so signs of
dehydration are drowsy, thirsty, sunken eyes, absent tears, dry tongue, lost skin shin,
rapid heart rate, rapid respiration and decrease urination. If the baby is not dehydrating then you can try some probiotics like Nutrolin B. Probiotic are viable bacteria e.g. lactobacilli or yeasts usually present in fermented dairy products e.g. curds, yogurt, lassi etc. or available commercially like Nutrolin B.
Preferably get your daughter evaluated by a
pediatrician for dehydration, cause of diarrhea and further management.
Hope that answers your query.
Wishing your daughter a quick recovery
Take Care :)
