Infant Having Red Blood Cells And Pus Cells In Stools. What Should Be The Treatment For This?
My baby is 5 months old with 4-5x loose stools a day> Recently, here was a trace of blood and mucus in his stool and stool exam revealed pus cells of 10-20 and red blood cells of 50-70 with few bacteria. What should be the treatment option for this?
Hi, Thank you for your query. The stool investigation is suggestive of bacterial infection of gut. This infection has to be treated by a course of antibiotic such as colistin or cefixime. In addition, oral probiotic, oral rehydration solutions, and oral zinc is suggested for treatment. Therefore I advise you to consult the child specialist for examination and to prescribe appropriate medication. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
