Infant Treated With Amikacin Injection And Ofloxacin For Having Pus Cells In Stool. Time Taken To Recover?

Hello Doc.. my baby has PUS cells in stool , range is 15-20/hpf... was treated with amikacin injection and OfloXACIN_M antobiotic for more than 5 days..even after that the stool is sticky..baby is quite active, passes urine 7/8 times a day and slowly gaining weight.. the stool physically looks like watery, smells badly.he is 5 months baby. how much time it will take to recover? is it serious?

Hi,

According to the details you have provided, your son is most probably suffering
from gastroenteritis. As the treatment is going on with antibiotics he will recover soon. Sticky stool may be due to mucus, which is somewhat normal. As no other symptoms are present, there is no need to worry. after the course of treatment as prescribed by your treating doctor go for stool test again to see if disease has completely resolved. watery and smelly stool will go away in the meantime.
Exclusive breastfeeding will be helpful as mother's milk is easily digestible. Top feed should be avoided till 6 month of age.
