Infant With Chronic Cough With Varying Intensity, Was Given Ventrolin And Kidpred. What Does This Indicate?
My child , 11 months old has persistent cough since 3 weeks.. Peculiar nature of his cough is, it increases in the morning and is quite severe till he actually spits out mucuos.. It reduces during the day. My child is otherwise healthy and active and is eatin alright.. No significant changes there. My doctor had intially prescribed protussa , when tht didn't work, he changed the medicine to Ventrolin and kidpred for 5 days.. Can you please let me know what I should do? And what is happening to my child really? Thanks
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. Kinpred is prednisolone, a corticosteroid. Ventolin is a bronchodilator. These medicines indicate that your doctor might be probably suspecting a condition called cough variant asthma. This typically presents with coughing bouts in the early morning with no signs of wheeze or infection. The treatment will be to use a steroid for a short duration followed by the bronchidilator. Hope this helps you. Take care.
