Infant With Red Spots In Ears. Applied Topical Steroids And Emollient. Not Cured. Treatment?

My 5 month old daughter s had red spots upon her ears. The doctor prescribed her an anti fungal treatment plus later topical steroids and emollient for face as she also had some red and dry spots on it. I applied as prescribed and all is gone but after one or two days come back again and skin on her face is even more dry now and she also has irritated skin behind her ears and rubbing her face and eyes from time to time. What could it be?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for chosing healthcaremagic.com for asking your queries and giving us this opportunity to answer to you questions.
Well, generally fungal infections are whittish coloured lesions with scaling on them and itching. But any skin lesions is better diagnosed after seeing it rather than reading about it. In any case, I would advise you to see a pediatric dermatologist because it is progressively increasing in size and is recurrent. Even after relief for a few days, it is recurring. So, it must be a progressive dermatitis. Does your child also have some whittish flaky skin on the scalp? Well, this and many more questions will need to be answered by you. Specially, now that the face is being involved and in infants the facial skin is very delicate, it will be better if a pediatric dermatologist sees the lesions and then treats.
Hope I have been successful in helping you reach to a conclusion and make a decision. I will be also available for any further doubts if any. Take care and stay healthy.

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query,
dermatitis is a common problem in young infants,
Since lesion is recurring i will suggest you to get her evaluated by pediatrician.
In the mean time apply emollient immediately after bath, and later in the day 2 to 3 times so as to prevent drying.

Wishing your baby good health.
God bless
