Intermittent Radiating Pain In Upper Arm, Discomfort. What Is The Reason?

Intermittent spontaneous radiating pain on upper right arm. Comes and goes randomly and last only a couple seconds. Not associated with movement. Leaves for hours, then comes back again. Always same area, doesn't travel down arm. Uncomfortable. Has been going on for a couple of days. I did lift something quite heavy the day before it happened; but it doesn't seem muscular. It feels like a nerve; very deep almost electric feeling.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, thank you for your question.

the pain you describing can be either radiating from trapped nerve in your neck (cervical spine) or radiating from the shoulder.
nerve pain from the neck is more likely in your case.

usually they settle spontaneously, but to avoid occasional severe pain, you can try regular simple painkillers for few days.

If getting worse rather than better then consider doing MRI scan of the cervical spine.

best wishes
