Irregular Or Abnormally Long Period, Heavy Spotting, Heavy Bleeding, Kidney Issues And Thrush. Was Perimenopausal. Will I Be Okay?

Hi for the last year my periods have been all over the place with some normal and some longer. Also heavy spotting. The last 2 I had light spotting afterwards and the last period was very light and watery with large blood clots. I'm 45 and have suffered from very heavy bleeding all my life up until now. I originally thought it was perimenopause but the doctor said I won't go through that till I'm 60 and said I'm far too young and only tested me for sexual deseases. I am aslo suffering from Kidney infections and thrush quite a lot and it gets 100 times worse after sex. Urination is very frequent and I have now developed a firm area just below my ribcage and above my navel. I suffer from constipation and thought it could be that but I've always suffered from it and never had the swelling before. Last year when my periods started playing up, 2 lasted for 3 weeks and 10 days another month when normally they only last 3 days. My Sister's periods stopped at 44 and my Mother went through menopause in her 30's so do you think I have perimenopause?

Hi.

First of all, perimenopause is experienced by many woman who cross the age of 40 years, so it is not completely true that you cannot experience it till you reach the age of 60.

Next, your symptoms are that of an infection, and if you are treated adequately for the same, then most of your symptoms shall subside. Menstrual irregularities, frequent urination, etc; are all symptoms of the infection. Please complete the course of treatment and avoid sexual intercourse during the course and for at least 7 days from the completion of the treatment.

Your constipation is a different problem all together and will have to be tackled with a strict high-fiber diet, lots of fluids and please do consult a nutritionist regarding the same.

As mentioned earlier, you can easily experience symptoms of menopause at your age. So yes, you could be perimenopausal, but I would only suggest this after completely and adequately treating your infection; after which you could write to me with your prevailing symptoms after the infection has been adequately treated and we could ascertain your menopausal or perimenopausal status.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
