Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

I understand how you feel, and would explain that many antidepressants can be helpful in your clinical situation.

But their effects are slow and are more noticeable after the first month of starting them. 1mg of Xanax is a normal dose for anxiety. It acts with a high speed.

Anyway, the decision of starting antidepressant may be a little difficult especially in young patients, because of their adverse effects. That is why your doctor has decided to try psychotherapy first. I agree with his decision.
I would just recommend you to take some deep breaths and practice meditation. It can help you to calm down. Another option is physical therapy (aerobics, Yoga and recreational sports). Physical activity can cause similar brain changes like antidepressants.

Hope to have been helpful!
Wishing all the best, Dr. Aida
