Is 9cm Fibroid Too Large To Remove Via Laparoscopy?
Hi Drs. I have a 9cm fibroid causing me a lot of problems. Is that too large to remove via laparoscopy? I have anemia and even with weekly iron injections my HGB is dropping approx .3 per month. I can t have open hysterectomy until HGB comes up (but I don t see that happening). I had 2 blood transfusions in Nov 13 (HGB 6.7). Very scared. I know UFE is an option for any HGB level but not sure it would work on such a large fibroid. To me I would rather have this out since I have the bladder issues etc. Thank you for any advice. I ve been to 2 doctors and both have different opinions.
Hello and welcome to HCM. As a specialist, let me assure you that, a 9cm fibroid isn't too large for laporoscopic removal. Laporoscopic surgery has less bleeding than open surgery, hence you should opt for lap removal. But for surgery and normal healing, your Hb should be atleast 10 gm. Wait for it to become normal. You must take iron supplements daily. What are bladder issues.?? You haven't mentioned it. For an expert opinion, you may send the reports to me. Dr.Matthew J. Mangat.
